Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 has seen an extraordinary run at the box office, but after 46 days in theaters, its momentum has slowed significantly. The film, which opened to an astounding ₹164.25 crore on day one, is now struggling to cross ₹1 crore in daily collections. On Sunday, it earned ₹1.18 crore, bringing its total to ₹1,227.93 crore net in India and an estimated ₹1,732.95 crore worldwide.

Initially released in December with high expectations and massive fanfare, the Sukumar-directed action drama shattered records in its early weeks. Notably, it became the first Indian film to cross ₹1,830 crore globally within 32 days. However, with the arrival of new releases like Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency and Ram Charan’s Game Changer, competition has intensified, impacting Pushpa 2’s box office performance.

Weekend Boost for Pushpa 2

A slight weekend revival was observed when collections jumped by 35%, from ₹95 lakh on Friday to ₹1.10 crore on Saturday. Sunday saw further growth with earnings of ₹1.18 crore, thanks to an extended version of the film released on January 17, featuring 20 additional minutes of footage.

New Releases Dominate

Despite Pushpa 2’s impressive run, it has been overshadowed by new releases. Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency led the box office on Sunday with ₹4.35 crore, followed by Ram Charan’s Game Changer at ₹2.50 crore. Another notable release, Azaad, starring Rasha Thandani and Aman Devgan, collected ₹1.85 crore.

Legacy of Pushpa 2

Even as its theatrical run approaches its end, Pushpa 2’s achievements remain remarkable. With its groundbreaking global collections and strong fan following, the film has set a high bar for future Indian blockbusters.

Storyline of Emergency

Pushpa 2 and emergency movie collection

Set in the politically volatile 1970s, Emergency chronicles the life and decisions of Indira Gandhi, India’s first and only female Prime Minister. Indira rises to power after the death of her father, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, against his earlier doubts about her capabilities. Despite initial skepticism, she gains public trust, particularly during the Indo-Sino war, when her leadership shines.

Her tenure sees monumental events, including the formation of Bangladesh in 1971. However, her reign takes a controversial turn with the emergence of her younger son, Sanjay Gandhi, as her closest advisor. Sanjay’s authoritarian tendencies and unchecked ambitions alienate party leaders, leading to a massive political crisis.

Amid mounting opposition and a legal challenge threatening her position, Indira announces a nationwide Emergency in 1975. The period is marked by authoritarian rule, mass arrests, press censorship, and human rights violations. While Indira justifies her decisions as necessary to protect the country, the Emergency leaves an indelible mark on India’s political history, showcasing the complexities of power, family, and leadership.
